If you're looking for inspiration for your own high-end wedding in South or West Wales, let me share the story of Caryl and James’ magical September day at Rhosygilwen. As a South Wales Wedding Photographer, I had the privilege of capturing their stunning combination of elegance, personal touches, and timeless romance.
Morning at the Manor House
The day started in the charming Manor House at Rhosygilwen, with the excitement of preparations in the air. I captured the delicate details—the soft lace of Caryl’s dress, her shimmering jewellery, and the freshly bloomed flowers. Caryl, being a total pro, did her own makeup to perfection, while Bridal Hair by Katie Marie worked her magic on Caryl’s hair. (You can find Katie’s work on Instagram here).
Meanwhile, the boys were enjoying a bit of whiskey as they got suited up—an excellent moment for me as their South Wales Wedding Photographer to capture some fun, candid shots. Then came one of my favorite parts: Caryl stepping into her gown from White Bride Narberth (you can see their stunning dresses here). Her mother helped button up the back, creating such an intimate and touching moment, followed by an emotional first look with her dad and bridesmaids. That reveal was full of joy and happy tears!
A Beautiful Lawn Ceremony
Under a cloudy September sky, Caryl and James exchanged vows on the lawn in front of the Manor House. It was the perfect backdrop for a romantic ceremony, with the lush greenery all around. Afterward, the couple had a dreamy confetti throw before we gathered everyone for a big group photo. Then, we moved on to family portraits and candid moments with the bridesmaids and groomsmen—just the kind of natural moments I love capturing as a South Wales Wedding Photographer.
First Moments Together: Capturing Intimate Couple Portraits
After the fun and energy of the group photos, it was time for Caryl and James to step away for their first portraits together as a married couple. As a South Wales Wedding Photographer, these moments are always a highlight for me—capturing the newlyweds away from the crowd, in a more intimate setting.
We took a walk around the grounds of Rhosygilwen, using the natural beauty of the estate to create some timeless images. The lush greenery, grand architecture, and serene atmosphere allowed us to capture a mix of romantic and candid shots that perfectly reflected their love and connection. I always aim to create a relaxed environment during these sessions, so the couple can be themselves, and their love story can shine through in every image.
These portraits were the perfect lead-up to the rest of the evening’s festivities, giving Caryl and James a few peaceful moments to enjoy the excitement of the day together.
Reception Elegance
The reception was a masterclass in simple, elegant decor with a beach theme inspired by the couple’s favorite coastal spots. It was amazing to see how their love of travel and nature came through in the details. Strawberry Shortcake Dining provided a delicious feast (you can check them out here) before we got into the heartwarming speeches filled with laughter and a few happy tears.
Misty Moments in the Welsh Countryside
Even though we didn’t get a golden hour due to the misty Welsh weather, the grounds of Rhosygilwen were breathtaking. The tree-lined landscape looked even more magical with the mist, giving us a unique atmosphere for Caryl and James' couple portraits. Sometimes, the moodiness of the Welsh countryside makes for even better photos—this is one of the reasons I love being a South Wales Wedding Photographer.
Dance the Night Away
Soon it was time for the couple’s first dance. The band, The Coachellas, kicked off the evening with incredible live music, and the dance floor quickly filled up with guests dancing the night away. (If you love live music, definitely check out The Coachellas here).
